China called on to meet climate financing commitments

Beijing, November 25 (IANS). The 29th General Assembly of the Signatory Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change concluded in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The parties reached consensus on key issues, including targets for new capital to address climate change and detailed rules to implement Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press conference on Monday that the achievements of the General Assembly reflect the principle of “common but differentiated responsibilities” and demonstrate global commitment to addressing climate change.

The spokesperson stressed that the new target for climate financing requires developed countries to provide and mobilize at least $3 trillion annually before 2035. This capital will be essential for developing countries to effectively respond to climate change.

He pointed out that China urges developed countries to truly fulfill their obligations to financially support developing countries. Furthermore, China is committed to continuing its support for other developing countries in their climate efforts through South-South cooperation whenever possible.
