Jhansi, 16 November (IANS). On Friday, 10 newborn babies died in a sudden fire in the NICU ward at Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep grief over the accident that took place in the NICU of Jhansi Medical College. As soon as information about the incident was received late on Friday night, the Chief Minister sent Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak and Principal Secretary Health to the spot overnight.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took every moment information from the incident site throughout the night. Also kept an eye on TV. The Chief Minister has directed the administration to immediately provide Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the newborns who died in the tragic incident at Jhansi Medical College and Rs 50 thousand each to the seriously injured.
CM Yogi posted on social media platform Instructions have been given to conduct it. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant salvation to the departed souls and speedy recovery to the injured.
At the same time, UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has reached Maharani Lakshmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi regarding this incident. And he met the families of the newborn babies. Also, instructions have been given for a three-tier investigation into the incident.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, while talking to journalists at the Medical College, said that the death of newborn babies is very unfortunate. We, along with the family members, are trying to identify the bodies of the newborns. The first investigation will be done at the administrative level, which will be done by the Health Department, the second investigation will be done by the police administration, the fire department team will also be a part of it, and third, instructions have also been given for a magisterial investigation.
He said that a fire safety audit was conducted in February and a mock drill was also conducted in June. How did this incident happen and why did it happen? Something can be said about this only after the investigation report comes. Financial assistance will be provided to the families of newborn babies.
Chief Medical Superintendent Sachin Mahor said that 54 children were admitted in the NICU ward. Suddenly a fire broke out inside the oxygen concentrator. Efforts were made to extinguish the fire but since the room was highly oxygenated, the fire spread rapidly. Many children were saved. 10 children died. The injured children are undergoing treatment.
