Jaipur : Congress may be strong in terms of the number of MLAs as the opposition in Rajasthan this time. It did not leave any opportunity to corner the government on various issues in the House. But it is on the backfoot in terms of fighting and agitating on the streets. Due to factionalism, management and many other reasons, Congress has not been able to launch a single major movement against the Bhajan Lal government in 9 months.
When the result of the 2023 assembly elections came out, even though Congress had left power, a good number of 71 Congress MLAs were elected and reached the threshold of the assembly. Then all the experts had this assessment that this time Congress will make life difficult for the government from the House to the road. Congress definitely took the government to task on public interest issues in the House and also made headlines in the media. But outside the House, Congress’s performance on the roads looked a bit dull. There were many such issues which if Congress had raised aggressively, it would have caught the attention of the public. Apart from this, there were many schemes like that of Chief Minister Chiranjeevi, for which if Congress had fought on the streets or raised its voice, then it could have got full support from the public. But Congress leaders were limited to only giving statements in the media or expressing their opinion on social media. This flexible stand of Congress raises questions on its being a strong and established opposition despite having good numbers. Actually, Rajasthan Congress is still divided into many factions. Due to factionalism, gathering crowd for a big demonstration has become a challenge. Apart from this, Ashok Gehlot was not well and Sachin Pilot faction is on its own path. In such a situation, MLAs are also maintaining distance. This is the reason why Congress has not been able to run any memorable movement against Bhajan Lal government in 9 months. This is the reason why the Congress chief is now busy in reorganizing the organization and sharpening it.
