Congress expelled rebel leader Jayshree Patil from the party for six years for contesting the elections as an independent.

Mumbai, November 16 (IANS). The Indian National Congress (INC) has expelled rebel leader Jayshree Patil from the Congress party for six years for contesting the elections as an independent candidate against the official Congress candidate in Sangli assembly constituency.

The party has taken this decision in response to his violating party discipline by contesting the election despite already fielding a candidate from Sangli constituency in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee took this action under the leadership of State President Nana Patole after clear instructions from Patole. In the official expulsion letter, the Congress party said that Patil’s actions violated party rules and harmed the party’s collective efforts in the upcoming elections.

It is written in the letter that in the Maharashtra State Assembly Elections 2024, you (Jayshree Patil) are contesting as an independent candidate in Sangli Assembly Constituency, while the official candidate of Congress Party is contesting the election. This act of yours violates party discipline. Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, on the instructions of State President Nana Patole, has expelled you from the Congress Party for the next 6 years.

Let us tell you that on November 20, voting will be held on 288 assembly seats of Maharashtra. Whereas the results will come on 23rd November. To win the battle of Maharashtra, leaders of political parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters.
