New Delhi, December 7 (IANS). A round of reactions has begun on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressing her desire to lead the India Alliance.
The Congress party has made it clear that the leadership decision for the opposition alliance will be taken collectively by all the member parties instead of public announcements.
Speaking to IANS, Congress leaders said that such decisions require consensus.
Congress leader Rashid Alvi told IANS, “Nitish Kumar had also expressed his desire to lead the India alliance. But in such a big alliance, leadership decisions are not taken unilaterally. It requires consensus and consultation among all the members.” The group will collectively decide who will be the convener, or if anyone will be the president, it is natural for leaders to aspire to leadership, but such decisions are not related to personal ambitions.”
Meanwhile, Congress Lok Sabha MP Tariq Anwar said that India Alliance is an alliance of many parties and leadership decisions will be taken collectively.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Tanuj Punia said that this matter should be discussed with opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and party national president Mallikarjun Kharge. This is not something to be debated in the media. If Mamata Banerjee has any suggestion then it should be put up for discussion among all the member parties and decisions will be taken accordingly.
More than two dozen opposition parties are included in the India Alliance formed to challenge the BJP in the elections. Whereas Congress is the largest party in the alliance. TMC has been continuously advocating for Mamata Banerjee to be given a bigger role in the India alliance.
Mamata had recently expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of the India Bloc and said that she was ready to lead the alliance if she got an opportunity.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she will not leave Bengal, but she can lead the India alliance from there. His comment came after TMC MP Kirti Azad’s statement about making Mamata Banerjee the head of the India alliance.
