Constitution Day celebrated for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir, will give a befitting reply to every terrorist organization: PM Modi

New Delhi, November 26 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Constitution Day celebrations in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. While addressing the function, PM Modi wished all the countrymen on Constitution Day.

PM Modi said that this 75th year of the Constitution of India is a day of immense pride for the entire country. Today I respectfully bow to the Constitution of India and all the members of the Constituent Assembly.

He said that when we are remembering this important festival of democracy, we cannot forget that today is also the anniversary of the terrorist attack in Mumbai. I pay my tribute to those who died in this attack. I also reiterate the country’s resolve that a befitting reply will be given to every terrorist organization that challenges India’s security.

PM Modi further said that the makers of our Constitution knew that India’s aspirations, India’s dreams would reach new heights with time. He knew that the needs of independent India and the citizens of India would change, the challenges would change. Therefore, he did not leave our Constitution merely a book of law, but made it a living, continuously flowing stream.

PM Modi said that our Constitution has met every expectation and need of the country. It is because of the strength of the Constitution that today Baba Saheb’s Constitution has been fully implemented in Jammu and Kashmir. Constitution Day was celebrated for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir. Today India is going through a great phase of change and the Constitution of India is showing us the way. It has become a guide for us.

He said that the new judicial code has been implemented to ensure that Indians get speedy justice. The punishment based system has now changed into a justice based system.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said that in the last 10 years, bank accounts of more than 53 crore Indians who otherwise could not reach the bank doors have been opened. In the last 10 years, 4 crore Indians who were homeless for generations have got permanent houses. In the last 10 years, more than 10 crore women have got free gas connections, who were waiting for years for gas to reach their homes. Today, the country’s emphasis is on ease of living for its citizens. There was a time when senior citizens receiving pension had to go to the bank to prove that they were alive. Today, senior citizens are getting the facility of digital life certificate right from the comfort of their homes. About 1.5 crore senior citizens have benefited from this facility.

He said that today India is a country which provides free treatment facility up to Rs 5 lakh to every poor family. Today, India is a country which provides free health care facility to every elderly person above 70 years of age.
