Jaipur : Ram in the mouth, knife in the side’… this saying seems to fit perfectly on the Bhajanlal government of Rajasthan. On one hand, politics is being done in Rajasthan in the name of cows. Orders are being issued such as not using the word ‘Awara’ in front of the name of the cow by calling it a mother. On the other hand, the government is not even presenting a lawyer in the court to oppose the bail of cow smugglers. This entire case is related to cow smuggler Nazim Khan of Karauli district. In 2021, Rajasthan Police arrested Nazim and his associates on charges of cow smuggling. Nazim’s bail was not granted till the High Court, but the Rajasthan government did not even present a power of attorney against Nazim’s bail petition in the Supreme Court. Due to this, the Supreme Court granted bail to Nazim and also mentioned this in its decision.

Due to the absence of state counsel, the old criminal records of the accused could not be presented, due to which he is being granted bail. Click here to read the complete order of the Supreme Court.

Nazim Khan and his associates were arrested from Karauli in 2021 in the case of cow smuggling. They were accused of trying to smuggle 26 cows to Uttar Pradesh. A case was registered against the accused under sections 3, 5, 8, 9 and 10. The accused had applied for bail in the sessions court, which was rejected by the court. After this, the High Court had also rejected the bail application of the accused. The High Court had said that due to the old criminal record of the accused, bail cannot be granted. Later the matter reached the Supreme Court, where due to the non-appearance of the Rajasthan government’s lawyer, the Supreme Court granted bail to the accused. The Supreme Court has written in its decision, “Despite the notice given to the Rajasthan government on October 8, 2024, no one filled the Vakalatnama nor did anyone appear on behalf of the Rajasthan government. Due to the absence of the state counsel, the accused His old criminal records could not be produced, due to which he is being granted bail.”
