Dausa migratory bird Pied Avocet arrives at Morel Dam

Dausa : the largest earthen dam of the Asia continent located in the Lalsot area maintains its identity as a refuge for winter migratory birds. Every year thousands of aquatic and terrestrial birds come here for migration. Bird expert Rajesh Pilot, Principal of Government Post Graduate College, Professor Subhash Pahadia said that migratory birds have started arriving at Morel Dam. Hundreds of Pied Avocets have camped in the dam. This bird is of medium size, white in color and has black stripes on it. Its beak is very thin, pointed and like a pitcher. These micro-organisms make earthworms their food.

This bird, which breeds in Europe and Central Asia, travels a distance of about 2300 kilometers and comes to India for winter migration. They lay eggs on the ground. According to Professor Subhash Pahadia, these birds have been continuously coming to Morel Dam for migration for the last 5 years. Along with these, five thousand birds like Greater Flamingo, Blacktail Godwit, Black Headed Gull etc. have reached the dam. Currently around 20 thousand birds are expected to arrive. According to Professor Subhash Pahadia, there has been a change in the migration of birds this time. If compared with last year, the last time migratory birds reached Morel Dam in the last week of September. But this time, even till October, very few water birds have arrived. The main reason for the delay in migration is climate change due to which temperatures in Central Asia are still high. Now that the temperature has come down, migratory birds have started coming.
