Delhi Police strict against Bangladeshi infiltrators, checking identity cards in Kalindi Kunj area

New Delhi, December 11 (IANS). Delhi Police conducted a campaign in Kalindi Kunj area to check Aadhaar cards and voter ID cards of people living in slums so that action can be taken against Bangladeshis living illegally.

The Muslims living in the slum located in Kalindi Kunj claimed that they are from Assam and have been living in Delhi for the last 27 years. One said, “We are not from Bangladesh. The police have come to our place today to investigate and are asking for some important documents. We live here, our parents live in the village.”

Another Muslim man said that he is a resident of Assam. Aadhar card and other documents were asked from him. Aadhar card has not been made yet. We have been living here for 20 years. We are not residents of Bangladesh.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Secretariat has asked the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to launch a special drive to identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the next two months and take action as per the existing rules in a time bound manner.

According to the secretariat, its objective is to identify infiltrators living in Delhi and take action against them. The city’s Muslim community has demanded this step citing the Bangladesh crisis.

LG VK was visited by a delegation of Muslim leaders. The Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat has taken this step after Saxena demanded the expulsion of Bangladeshi infiltrators. The secretariat has written a letter to the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to initiate strict action based on the complaint.

Recently, a delegation of Ulemas and Muslim leaders had expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh. In the memorandum given to the LG, the delegation had demanded strict action against illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators living not only in Delhi but across the country.
