Demonstration on completion of four years of farmers movement, protesters said – our demands have not been met yet

Karnal, 26 November (IANS). On Tuesday, on the occasion of completion of four years of the farmers’ movement, members of Bharatiya Kisan Union, Mid Day Meal Workers and Sarva Karmachari Sangh demonstrated in Karnal, Haryana. This demonstration was done for their respective demands.

Farmers Union said that four years ago the government had assured us that your demands would be accepted. But the irony is that till date the demands of the farmers have not been considered. There is anger among the farmers regarding this. Farmer brothers want the government to consider our demands.

This demonstration started from Mahatma Gandhi Chowk in Karnal and ended at the District Secretariat. A memorandum was submitted to the President on behalf of the protesting farmers. In this, details of all the demands raised by the farmers are recorded. The demands raised by the farmers mainly include demands like law on MSP, withdrawal of cases filed against farmers, compensation etc.

Farmer union leader Ramphal said, “The demands that we had put before the government during the last four years of agitation have not been accepted yet. We were assured by the government that we will accept your demands. But, no such step has been taken till now, hence all of us farmer brothers have gathered here and submitted a memorandum to the President. Recently, a case was registered against us for burning stubble. We have demanded that all those cases be withdrawn. We also make it clear that if our demands are not met, we will further expand the scope of our agitation in the coming days.”

State President of Bharatiya Kisan Union, Ratan Mann said, “Today all of us farmers united and protested and sent this message to the government that you have not fulfilled the promise you had made to all of us. We submitted a memorandum to the President in this regard. We will also hold a meeting in this regard, further outline will be decided in it.”
