DFES issues alert regarding fire in Western Australia

Sydney, November 29 (IANS). The WA Department of Fire and Plant (DFES) has issued a warning regarding the massive fire that broke out in Western Australia (WA), saying that the fire has spread a lot and it is too late to get out of there.

The DfES issued an emergency warning to residents of the small coastal town of Savants, located 170 kilometers north of Perth, and surrounding communities on Friday morning, advising them to seek shelter from the storm, Xinhua news agency reported.

“You are in danger and need to take immediate action to escape. Your life and homes are at risk,” the alert issued by the WA Department of Fire and Forests (DFES) read.

In the alert, the department further said, “It is too late to evacuate. The fire has affected the external routes and evacuating now may put your life in danger.”

Let us tell you that on Monday, hundreds of fire fighters as well as aerial water bombing crews (teams that control forest fires using planes) were deployed to control the fire that broke out due to a car accident. The fire has become so dangerous that it has burnt more than 65,000 hectares of land.

Hot weather and strong winds forecast Friday could make containment efforts more challenging, officials said.

Roads, schools and hospitals have been closed in Savants and the surrounding area.

Two firefighters were also injured while extinguishing the fire. Who are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
