Jaipur : A strict law against religious conversion is going to come in Rajasthan, in which rules can also be made regarding relationships like live-in. Rajasthan government is preparing to bring strict rules in anti-conversion law like Uttarakhand. The rules of the old bill are also being included. Along with this, the condition of making it mandatory for those living in live-in to get registration can be added. This means live-in couples may have to get themselves registered.
Unmarried couple cannot live together like this
About three years ago, the Rajasthan High Court had given its verdict on the hearing of a case regarding live-in-relationship. According to this important decision of the court, a married and unmarried person cannot live in a live-in relationship. Their relationship is not legally valid. This means that this couple cannot get any kind of security. Then, a 29-year-old unmarried girl and a 31-year-old married man had filed a petition in the court. While living in a live-in relationship, both of them had demanded legal protection, calling themselves a threat to the family. While hearing this case, Justice Pankaj Bhandari had rejected the petition.
Legal provisions regarding live-in-relationship
In a case, the Rajasthan High Court, citing a decision of the Supreme Court, had clarified on live-in-relationship that such couples should live like husband and wife. Citing a decision of the Supreme Court, the court said that for this relationship, both of them should be of marriageable age and both should also be eligible to get married.
The law does not consider live-in as a crime
If two people are living together as husband and wife and are not married, then their relationship is called ‘live in relationship’. There is a law regarding this in the entire country including Rajasthan. At the social level, such live-in relationship is not recognized and at the religious level it is also considered wrong, but in Indian law, such live-in relationship is not considered a crime.
