New Delhi, November 13 (IANS). Asparagus is a medicine because of its amazing properties. Along with its medicinal properties, it improves digestion by increasing the activity of lipase and amylase in the human body. An element called lipase helps in the digestion of fats in our body, while amylase helps in the digestion of carbohydrates in our body.
Apart from this, there is a wealth of health in asparagus. Dr. Amit Kumar, who runs Shatayu Ayurveda and Panchakarma Center in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, said that people often equate asparagus with Ayurveda only. Whereas if its green leaves are used in everyday things then it is a super food for the people.
Dr Amit says, “Asparagus contains a variety of phytonutrients and antioxidants, which help protect the body from heart disease, cancer and damage caused by pollution. It is helpful in reducing physical and mental stress, as the folate present in it improves mood and increases the ability to deal with stress. “Stress can be controlled in a much better way by consuming asparagus.”
Enumerating the benefits of asparagus in the problems faced by women in conceiving, he says, “Nowadays many women face difficulties in conceiving. But, asparagus can be helpful in solving this. It helps in correcting hormonal imbalance, thereby regularizing menstruation and increasing the chances of getting pregnant. Apart from this, consumption of asparagus strengthens the immune system, as it has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce seasonal infections and improve the body’s defense capability. The anti-oxidants present in asparagus help in reducing problems related to heart diseases, cancer and pollution. It also reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s, because it contains vitamin E and folate, which help in keeping the brain healthy and avoiding related problems.”
Finally, Dr. Amit says that if there is a problem of insomnia, then asparagus can also provide a solution to it. It helps in improving sleep and keeps the body fresh, which brings mental peace.
