The Maharaja of Amer had built this palace 300 years ago in 1799. There was a special reason behind the construction of Jal Mahal, which very few people are familiar with, when there was a famine in the region in the 15th century, the ruler of Amer decided to build a dam to collect the water flowing from the mountains of Amer . And for drainage of water in Amagarh, 3 internal doors were built under water and Mansagar Lake was created.

The beauty of this lake was the center of attraction for the kings of that time and the kings often visited it in boats. Raja Sawai Jai Singh decided to build a palace in the middle of the lake after the Ashvamedh Yagya so that he could take a royal bath in the middle of the lake with his queen and pundits.
