Gorakhpur, December 10 (IANS). Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that the ‘double engine’ government is committed to providing dignified shelter to every needy. For this, houses have been given to people in rural and urban areas under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, while free night shelters have been arranged for the economically weak people coming for some work in the city.
CM Yogi inspected four night shelters in Gorakhpur late Tuesday evening. He directed the officials to provide good facilities to every needy in night shelters. Adequate number of beds and blankets should be arranged in all night shelters. Cleanliness should also be taken full care of. If someone does not have food, then food should also be provided to him.
The Chief Minister examined the facilities available by inspecting the night shelters near the railway station, Kachari bus station, near the student union square, Dharamshala and Jhulelal temple and talking to the people staying there. During this, he also inaugurated the newly constructed night shelter of Dharamshala. In all the night shelters, the Chief Minister also distributed blankets and food among the needy with his own hands.
He also distributed blankets and food among hundreds of needy people outside the four night shelters and assured them that the government is committed to serving them. He pampered the children present with their family members and blessed them with chocolates, toys and gifts.
Along with inquiring about the well-being of all the people staying in night shelters, CM Yogi also had a cordial conversation with them. Apart from the citizens of different areas of Purvanchal including Deoria, Kushinagar, Ballia, Gagaha, Chaurichaura, people from Bihar were also staying in different night shelters. Some had come to Gorakhpur to see a doctor and some to look for work or for some other work. The Chief Minister asked him whether there was any problem in night shelters here. Everyone gave satisfactory answers regarding the arrangements.
Speaking to media persons after inspecting the night shelters, the Chief Minister said that in view of the severe cold and cold wave, the state government has released sufficient funds to every district to distribute blankets made in UP to four lakh people in the first phase. Besides, the administration has been given the target of ensuring distribution of blankets by making a list of needy people.
CM Yogi said that in 10 years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, permanent houses have been provided to 56 lakh families in urban and rural areas under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Apart from this, houses will soon be provided to four lakh people. Even after this arrangement, for those who come to the urban area for treatment or any other work and do not have the ability to stay in a hotel or rented accommodation for the night, double engine in the urban areas is provided by the local government. Arrangements for night shelters have been made through civic bodies.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that arrangements have been made at many levels by the government to ensure that no one suffocates or shivers due to cold. In the Basic Education Department, arrangements have been made to provide sweaters to children by sending money to their parents’ accounts, while blankets are being distributed among the needy. In the coming time, extensive arrangements will be made for bonfires in public places to protect people and animals during cold waves.
During the inspection of the night shelter situated on Railway Station Road, when the Chief Minister was distributing blankets and food among the needy people outside, his eyes fell on the visually impaired persons standing at a distance. He immediately called them to him. Served them cordially by giving them blankets and food packets.
