Jaipur News Desk: The state government filed an appeal on Wednesday and approached the Supreme Court in the case related to the crisis in employment of 23 thousand mines of the state and 15 lakh people working on them. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Advocate General Shivmangal Sharma will on Thursday request Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud for an immediate hearing on behalf of the state government. The CJI will be requested to hear the matter at 2 pm on Thursday or Friday morning in view of the emergency. It has been learned that Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is directly monitoring this matter.
The state government filed a civil appeal in the Supreme Court on Wednesday. In this, the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has been challenged, in which the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authorities have been asked to re-evaluate the mines given environmental clearance by the District Environmental Impact Assessment Authorities by November 7, 2024. Otherwise instructions have been given to close these mines immediately.
State’s economy will be affected due to closure of mines
Additional Advocate General Shivmangal Sharma said that in the appeal, a demand has been made to give one year’s time to the state government to comply with these environment related instructions. Said in the appeal that the closure of the mines will affect the economy of the state and the employment of lakhs of poor laborers. These also include families of martyrs and families of Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Apart from this, construction activities will stop and construction materials will also become expensive.
