New Delhi, December 4 (IANS). Over the last 10 years, work on mega infrastructure projects overseen by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accelerated and boosted the country’s economic growth. This statement was given by Soumitra Dutta, Professor of Business School at Oxford University, to news agency IANS.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, the dean and professor said that the Pragati ecosystem allows for much more real-time monitoring of what is happening on the ground. In this, technologies like drones and sensors are used to provide real-time data to the Prime Minister.
He further said that through real-time data, the Prime Minister often detects problems even in meetings. Also they are capable of inculcating the spirit of working together for the betterment of India. I think it’s a role model for behavior change, which is extremely important.
Dutta said that earlier the biggest problem with big infrastructure projects in the country was their not being completed on time, due to which many times they became overbudget. Pragati Ecosystem has worked to complete all such projects on time, which were stalled for a long time.
Giving an example, he said that the Brahmaputra river in Assam was for a long time counted among the rivers where there was no bridge. The project to build a bridge with road and rail links was first approved in 2002, but even after a decade, nothing has actually happened with the project.
Dutta, co-author of the University of Oxford report titled “From Gridlock to Growth – How Leadership Powers Growth Through India’s Progress Ecosystem”, said the study was focused on India’s progress in building a national digital infrastructure. How has it affected the development of the nation?
