Guayaquil, November 17 (IANS). Ecuador manager Sebastian Bekas has said his team will give them equal competition when they take on Colombia in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Ecuador are currently fifth in the 10-team South American group with 16 points from 11 matches, three points behind third-placed Colombia.
The match to be held on Tuesday in Colombia’s port city Barranquilla will give both the teams a chance to qualify directly.
“It will be a good challenge. We will be well prepared and ready to compete on equal footing against a team that is playing very well,” Bekas told reporters, according to Xinhua news agency.
The Argentinian, who replaced Spain’s Felix Sanchez as Ecuador manager in August, said Colombia has some weaknesses.
Bekasse said, “They have in-form forwards and wingers who are dangerous when attacking. In defense they have players who are physically strong and also very strong technically. But we are a We are developing as a team. There is no doubt that most of them are very young but they have the potential to beat the best. We will be able to close the year with a win against Colombia.”
