Employment increased in urban areas of India in the July-September period

New Delhi, November 18 (IANS). The labor force participation rate (LFPR) of people above 15 years of age in urban areas of India has increased to 50.4 percent in July-September 2024 from 49.3 percent in July-September 2023. This information was given in the data released by the Statistics Ministry on Monday.

The rising Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) shows that employment is increasing in the country.

On gender basis, the LFPR for males aged 15 years and above in urban areas increased from 73.8 percent during July-September 2023 to 75.0 percent during July-September 2024.

At the same time, LFPR among women aged 15 years and above in urban areas has increased to 25.5 percent in July-September 2024, which was 24 percent in July-September 2023.

The Worker Population Ratio (WPR), defined as the percentage of employed persons to the population among persons aged 15 years and above in urban areas, to increase from 46.0 per cent during July-September 2023 to 46.0 per cent in July-September 2024. It has increased to 47.2 percent, which is another indication of increase in employment.

The WPR for males aged 15 years and above in urban areas has increased from 69.4 per cent in July-September 2023 to 70.7 per cent during July-September 2024.

The unemployment rate among people aged 15 years and above in urban areas has fallen to 6.4 percent in the July-September 2024 period, from 6.6 percent in the same period last year, which shows that the unemployment rate in the country has declined. .

Unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of unemployed persons among the persons in the labor force. By gender, the unemployment rate among males aged 15 years and above declined from 6.0 per cent during July-September 2023 to 5.7 per cent in July-September 2024.

According to the data, the unemployment rate among women aged 15 and above declined from 8.6 percent in July-September 2023 to 8.4 percent in July-September 2024.
