Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme in February 2024 to motivate people to generate electricity by installing solar plants on the rooftops of their houses. Under the scheme, a grant of Rs 30 thousand is given by the government for setting up a solar plant of 1 kilo watt. The cost of installing a 2 kilo watt solar plant is Rs 1.20 lakh. In which the government gives a grant of Rs 60 thousand. The cost of installing a 3 kilo watt solar plant on the roof of a house is Rs 1.80 lakh. In which the government gives a grant of Rs 78 thousand. Apart from this, various banks also give loans for setting up solar plants at 7 percent interest rate. Every month 300 to 400 people are installing solar plants on the roofs of their houses in Pali district. In such a situation, Discom is organizing camps at various places to tell people about the benefits of installing solar plants.

Giving quarter to two lakh units of electricity to Discom every day

There are around 5 lakh 30 thousand domestic and non-domestic electricity consumers in Pali district. Out of which about 3500 thousand have installed solar plants at their homes, shops, factories, hospitals etc. Which is producing on an average two and a half lakh units per day to the discom. This is about 52 lakh units per month.

This is the application process
What needs to be done to set up a solar plant? The government has launched a national portal for the scheme. Website https://www.pmsuryaghar. Application can be made on gov.in. To get it installed, you can apply by visiting the consumer portal. Here you will have to fill information like your consumer number, name, address and how much capacity plant you want to set up. Discom companies will verify these details and take the process forward. Many vendors are already registered on the portal who install solar panels. Everyone can choose any vendor as per their choice. After the panels are installed, the discom will install net metering.

Subsidy facility available after installation of solar plant
When the solar plant is installed and the discom installs net metering, its proof and certificate will be uploaded on the portal. After this, the government will transfer the entire amount of subsidy under DBT to the consumer’s account. A 1Kw solar plant produces about 4-5 units of electricity daily. In such a situation, if you install a 3 Kw plant, then about 15 units of electricity will be generated daily. That means 450 units a month. You can use this electricity. The remaining electricity will be returned through net metering and money will also be received for this electricity.

Both Discom and consumer are benefiting

Jodhpur Discom’s Superintending Engineer Ajay Mathur said – Every month 300 to 400 people are installing solar plants on the roofs of their houses in Pali district. The load of such discoms is also decreasing and people’s light bills have also reduced significantly due to installation of solar plants. Banks are also giving loans for setting up solar plants. In such a situation, people are getting solar plants installed on the roof of their houses by paying the electricity bill every month.
