Fall armyworm is destroying the maize crop, know the ways to prevent it

Chittorgarh : Farmers are busy weeding their fields in preparation for Kharif crops. This time there has been bumper sowing of maize crop in Chittorgarh district. At the same time, the area of ​​soybean sowing is gradually decreasing. More than 90 percent sowing has been done in the district this monsoon. Desi maize and hybrid seeds are being sold in the fields from 20 to 400 rupees per kg. But, after sowing maize, these plants that have come out of the ground are now in danger. The larvae of butterflies and fall army worm have started eating maize plants. Now the situation is such that farmers have to spray expensive medicines on the maize crop.

The caterpillar is busy eating the corn plants

Farmers are busy weeding the fields. The corn plants that have come out of the ground have started to rot even before they grow up, the reason for this is the larvae of butterflies i.e. fall army worm which is called ‘lat’ in the local language. The caterpillar is busy eating these corn plants. Farmers bought seeds at high prices and sowed them and now due to the damage caused by this caterpillar, farmers are facing a double blow.

The insect has the potential to cause serious damage to the crop

For the first time in India, Fall Army Worm was seen in the maize crop in Karnataka in 2018. After this, it started spreading rapidly in many states of the country. Fall Army Worm is a very destructive pest in the maize crop which attacks the crop as a group and has the ability to cause serious damage to the crop. This insect is polyphagous which damages sugarcane, sorghum, millet, or other cereal crops in addition to maize.

Spray these medicines

Agriculture expert Shankar Lal Jat has advised spraying of Azadirachtin 1500 ppm 2.5 liter per hectare, Prakash Pass/Pheromone Trap 5 per acre or Imabactin Benzoate 5 SG 0.4 gm per liter for control of fall army worm pest in maize crop. Apart from this, spraying by making solution of Spinosad 0.3 ml water, Thiamethoxam 12.6 percent, Lambda Cyhalothrin 9.5 percent 0.5 ml, Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 percent 0.4 ml per liter water can help in fighting this pest. Apart from this, for control of semilooper pest in soybean, spraying of Quinolphos 25 EC 1 liter or Acefate 75 SP 1 gram per liter water at an interval of 20-20 days has been advised.
