Khanauri Border, 6 December (IANS). Farmers from Punjab-Haryana are once again trying to move towards Delhi with their demands. On the other hand, barbed wire and all kinds of barriers have been installed on the road to stop the farmers. Now the round of political reactions continues on the farmers’ march to Delhi. Farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar, while speaking to IANS at Khanauri border, expressed strong reaction to the action of the government and police.
Farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar said that farmers trying to go to Delhi were stopped by the police and tear gas shells were fired at them, due to which some farmers were injured. Describing it as a violation of democratic values, he said that the farmers should have the right to protest peacefully, but they are not being allowed to protest in Delhi.
Abhimanyu Kohar said, “We have already said that the government has a problem with tractor trolleys. Many BJP ministers used to say that farmers can come on foot or by bus without tractors. On November 4, the committee formed by the Supreme Court Government officials had said that farmers can leave their tractors and come, but today when 101 farmers were going to Delhi, the police stopped them and some farmers were also injured.
He said that this movement is peaceful and farmers should get the right to protest peacefully. He told that a fast unto death was announced on 26th. During this time it was said that if their demands were not resolved within 10 days, then a group of 100 farmers was going to leave for Delhi from Shambhu border on 6 December. But police action stopped it.
He said that India is called the world’s largest democracy, but in this democracy, the largest section of the country i.e. the farmers’ section is not even being given space to hold a peaceful protest in Delhi. This is a violation of democratic values and the constitutional institutions of the country should take cognizance of this.
