What is dengue fever and how dangerous is it?

Dengue is a viral infection, which is spread by the bite of Aedes mosquito. Aedes mosquito is a black spotted mosquito. After entering the body, dengue virus first affects the platelets, due to which the immune system of the body starts weakening. Dengue mosquitoes are more active in artificial light.

What are the symptoms of dengue fever?

Dengue fever is also called break bone fever, because it causes severe pain in muscles, head and joints along with high fever. In many cases, it is seen that after fever lasts for 2 to 3 days, red rashes start appearing on hands, legs, back or chest along with itching. Sometimes very severe dengue also occurs. Which is called dengue shock syndrome or dengue hemorrhagic fever. This situation can prove to be very dangerous. In this the number of platelets and white blood cells starts decreasing. Also, bleeding starts from nose, gums or stool. In such a situation, if immediate treatment is not received, the victim may even die.

What things should be kept in mind in the treatment of dengue?

There is no specific medicine to eliminate dengue virus. Therefore one should not take any unnecessary medicine on one’s own. If symptoms of dengue appear, take the medicine only after consulting the doctor. Regular monitoring of platelets is most important during the treatment of dengue, because platelets in the blood decrease in dengue fever.
