Jodhpur : The first flight of the indigenous fighter aircraft Tejas Mark-2 is possible in the year 2026. Its prototype has been prepared. It will be a 4.5 generation multirole fighter aircraft, which will replace the old Jaguar, MiG-2000 and MiG-29 fighter planes in the Indian Air Force. After this, the stock of indigenous aircraft in the Indian fleet will increase. Dr. DK Sunil, CMD of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), who came to the Defense Aviation Expo organized at Jodhpur Air Force Station, expressed hope for its first flight after two years. It is worth noting that Tejas Mark-1 is currently being produced by HAL. Its 40 aircraft have been handed over to the Indian Air Force. HAL is also producing Tejas Mark-1A, whose first aircraft is expected to be available by the end of this year.
First squadron expected in 2032
The development process of Tejas Mark-2 will be four years. Its production is expected to start from 2032. Around this time, Mig-29, Mirage 2000 and Jaguar will start retiring in a phased manner. By the year 2037, the squadrons of these three fighter planes will retire, by then Tejas Mark-2 will take their place.

HAL has signed an MoU with General Electric Company of America for the engine of Tejas. Mark-1A will have F-404 engine, while Tejas Mark-2 will have F-414 engine. It will be more powerful. It will be a state-of-the-art 17.5 tonne single engine supersonic aircraft. Maximum takeoff weight will be 17,500 kg. Its speciality will be its speed. It will fly at a maximum speed of 2385 km/h which will compete with modern jets of countries like America. It will have 13 hard points for installing missiles and bombs, in which other missiles including Brahmos can be installed.
