New Delhi, Dec 12 (IANS) The Financial Intelligence Unit India (FIU-IND) has detected undisclosed income of about Rs 11,000 crore in 2024. This information was given by the Finance Ministry on Thursday.
Information shared by FIU-IND with Law Enforcement Agencies (AEAs) said that undisclosed income of Rs 10,998 crore has been detected this year. Also, criminal income worth Rs 2,763 crore was identified and assets worth Rs 983.4 crore were attached.
The ministry said that the central nodal agency has seized 461 kg of drugs. A penalty of Rs 39.14 crore has been imposed in 211 compliance orders through regulatory action on reporting entities. Apart from this, 184 people have been arrested in money laundering, terrorism funding and other crimes.
“Strict surveillance by FIU-IND on financial transactions related to money laundering, terrorism and funding of proliferation has detected undisclosed income of approximately Rs 11,000 crore,” the ministry said in a statement on social media platform X.
FIU-IND is a central, national agency responsible for receiving, processing and analyzing information related to suspicious financial transactions and disseminating it to enforcement agencies and foreign FIUs.
FIU-IND is also responsible for strengthening the efforts of national and international intelligence, investigative and enforcement agencies in furthering global efforts against money laundering and terrorist financing.
FIU-IND is an independent body that reports directly to the Economic Intelligence Council (EIC) headed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Last month, the FIUs of India and Qatar held a two-day meeting to strengthen the relationship between the two organizations and commit to assist each other in fighting the menace of money laundering and terrorism funding.
