Flight testing of Guided Pinaka Weapon System completed, will increase the firepower of the army

New Delhi, November 14 (IANS). Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully completed flight trials of the Guided Pinaka Weapon System as part of the Provisional Staff Qualitative Requirements (PSQR) Validation Trial. The flight trials have been conducted in three phases at different field firing ranges.

The Defense Ministry said on Thursday that the rockets were thoroughly examined in these tests. PSQR parameters such as ranging, accuracy, stability and ability to simultaneously attack multiple targets in salvo mode were evaluated through extensive testing. 12 rockets each from each production agency have been test fired from two in-service Pinaka launchers upgraded by the launcher production agencies.

The precision strike version of the Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System is a completely indigenous weapon system. It has been developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment in collaboration with Research Center Building, Defense Research and Development Laboratory, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and Proof and Experimental Establishment. For this, Munitions India Limited and Economic Explosives Limited are the supporting agencies in the production of ammunition, while Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Larsen & Toubro have manufactured the Pinaka launcher and battery command post.

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has praised DRDO and the Indian Army for the successful PSQR trials of the system. He has said that the induction of this guided Pinaka weapon system will further increase the firepower of the armed forces.

Dr. Sameer V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman, Defense Research and Development Organization also congratulated the teams involved in this test. He informed that the rocket system has successfully completed all the necessary flight tests, which were required before being inducted into the Indian Army.
