Food processing unit to be established at district level in Madhya Pradesh: Kushwaha

Food processing unit to be established at district level in Madhya Pradesh: Kushwaha

Bhopal/Nagpur, 24 November (IANS). In Madhya Pradesh, on the lines of ‘one district-one product’, food processing units will be established at the district and division levels for processing horticultural crops. State Horticulture and Food Processing Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha gave this information in a workshop organized at Agro Vision National Agricultural Fair organized in Nagpur on Sunday.

The Minister said that a detailed action plan will be prepared by the state government for the establishment of food processing units at the district and division level. By doing this, farmers will be able to get a fair price for their produce.

Minister Kushwaha said that irrigation facilities have been expanded in Madhya Pradesh in the last 20 years. Electricity is being supplied to farmers at cheap rates. As a result, agricultural production has increased in the state. Farmers have been attracted towards cash crops instead of traditional farming.

He said that it is the effort of the Madhya Pradesh government to ensure that the farmers producing horticultural crops get the right price for their crops. For this, food processing unit and marketing work will be done on priority.

Narayan Singh Kushwaha observed the organic orange crop being grown in Nagpur and said that orange is also produced on a large scale in Madhya Pradesh. To further improve the orange crop, farmers of the state will be sent to Nagpur on a study tour, through which farmers will be able to see and understand the production process of organic oranges.
