Gandhinagar, December 10 (IANS). The delegation of Chauthi Dhamma Yatra met Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar. The Mekong-Ganga Dhamma Yatra has started from Bangkok Thailand and is on a visit to India from 2 to 10 December.
The yatra delegates met Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar after visiting the Math and Prerana School in Bhoomi Vadnagar, the hometown of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Leader of this delegation, Supachai Veerpuchong, while talking to Chief Minister Patel, said that the purpose of this historic visit is to strengthen the cultural and spiritual ties between the Mekong and Ganga civilizations.
The important pilgrimage linking India and South-East Asia is being organized with the aim of spreading the teachings of Buddhism around the world and raising public awareness towards the environment as well as promoting peace.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel respected the sentiments of Buddhism and appealed to the delegation to pray for peace. Due to which there will be peace, harmony and goodwill in the entire world in the times to come. After this the delegation prayed for peace in a meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Chief Minister Patel reminded the delegation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had organized the International Buddhist Conference in 2009 during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat and the Dalai Lama had participated in this conference.
The MoU was signed between Gujarat Tourism Corporation and Bodhgaya Vijayalaya-980 Institute in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
This MoU has been signed for mutual cooperation in the conservation, promotion and development of Buddhist tangible and intangible heritage in Gujarat as well as global promotion of the sites of Gujarat’s Buddhist Circuit.
On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister MK Das, Secretary Avantika Singh, Tourism Secretary Rajendra Kumar and MD of Tourism Development Corporation Chak Chuak were present.
