Provisions have been made for heavy fines and disconnection of domestic connection for commercial use of water. Also, if there is leakage of water from the tap, a provision has been made to collect fine from the house owner. After making new rules, the first action was also taken in Jaipur on Sunday, July 14. 7 water connections were cut in the Khoh Nagorian area of the city and a fine of Rs 14 lakh was also collected. Three FIRs have also been registered in this case.

Water from domestic connection used in hotel swimming pool

A complaint was received against Park City Hotel located in Khoh Nagorian that water from domestic connections was being used for commercial purposes. On the complaint, the Water Supply Department team raided the place. On the spot, it was seen that there were 7 separate domestic connections around the hotel. Water coming from the pipes of all these domestic connections was being used in the hotel’s swimming pool. The surprising thing was that all the seven connections were taken for the hotel only. The Water Supply Department team disconnected all the seven water connections. A fine of Rs 14 lakh 800 was also imposed on the hotel owner. Considering it as a criminal activity, an FIR has also been registered in Police Station Kho Nagorian for legal action under Section 303 (2), 326A of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

The cost of disconnecting the connection is also borne by the hotel operator

Additional Chief Engineer Jaipur Amitabh Sharma said that “The first action was taken on Sunday 14th July under the campaign to identify and disconnect illegal water connections. The hotel operator was illegally drawing drinking water from the main supply line of the department. This water was not being used for domestic purposes but was being used by the hotel operator to fill the swimming pool and for other commercial activities. Taking action on behalf of the Water Supply Department, a fine has been imposed on these seven illegal water connections under industrial consumption on the basis of departmental rules. Apart from this, the hotel operator will also have to pay a permanent penalty of Rs 1100 and Rs 3000 per connection respectively and the cost of disconnecting the water connection by the department.
