Gautam Adani said on Gukesh’s victory

New Delhi, December 12 (IANS). Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Thursday congratulated D. Gukesh on his historic victory in the World Chess Championship, calling it a “fantastic achievement”.

D. Gukesh created history by becoming the youngest world champion in chess by defeating Ding Liren of China in a 14-game match in Singapore on Thursday. The 18-year-old from Chennai took advantage of Ding’s mistake in the winner-take-all 14th game to defeat the champion and win the match 7.5-6.5. He has become the second Indian after Vishwanathan Anand to become World Chess Champion.

Gautam Adani praised Gukesh, writing, “This is not just a win – this is the defining moment of India’s chess revolution. An entire bold generation of champions has the courage to dream and inspire the entire country to move forward.” Congratulations Gukesh!”

By defeating Ding, Gukesh has become the 18th world champion in the history of more than a century of chess. He has announced the arrival of a new king on the chess horizon by breaking Garry Kasparov’s record of winning the title at the age of 21.

After battling through 13 games in three weeks, Ding Rapid and Blitz were looking forward to the tiebreaker as they had effectively countered the aggressive tactics of the young Indian challenger and taken the game to a draw. But, the 32-year-old Chinese player made a sensational mistake when he moved his rook, leaving him trapped and losing the game as Gukesh had an extra pawn in the king pawn ending.

Gukesh said on his win, “I have been dreaming of this for the last 10-12 years, ever since I started playing chess and the only way to explain it is that I am living my dream. First of all, Thank God I am living a miracle and this was possible only because of God.”
