Gaza, 30 November (IANS). The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said Gaza suffered the most intense civilian bombardment last year since World War II.
It said the plight of Palestinian refugees remains the ‘longest unresolved refugee crisis’ in the world, Xinhua news agency reported. ‘UNRWA’ was established to provide assistance and protection to Palestinian refugees until a just and permanent solution is found.
The UN agency issued the statement to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which is observed every year on November 29.
Israel has launched a massive attack against Hamas in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, in revenge for Hamas’s incursion through the southern Israeli border. During this period about 1,200 people were killed and about 250 were taken hostage.
Gaza-based health officials said in a statement on Friday that the Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip has risen to 44,363.
At the same time, recently Hamas had said that it is ready to cooperate in any ceasefire effort in Gaza Strip after the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire deal.
“We are monitoring the progress of the agreement in Lebanon, expressing our commitment to cooperate with any efforts to stop the fire in Gaza,” the Palestinian group said. News agency Xinhua had given this information quoting a press statement.
In the statement, Hamas also mentioned the conditions that it considers necessary for the agreement. These include the withdrawal of the occupying forces (Israeli Army), return of displaced people to their homes, and actual and complete prisoner exchange.
