Germany achieved record win, Netherlands also reached quarter finals

Freiburg, November 17 (IANS). Germany secured first place by registering the biggest win in the Nations League. Julian Nagelsmann’s team defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 7–0. Germany scored seven goals in a match for the first time in the six-year history of the Nations League.

Even before this win, Germany had secured a place in the quarter-finals, but this win made them the group winners. Now in the next phase in March they will face a runner-up team.

Germany took the lead in the first half through a header from Jamal Musiala, a deflection from Tim Kleindienst (which was his first international goal) and a superb finish from Kai Havertz.

Germany’s excellent performance continued in the second half also. At the same time, this defeat has eliminated Bosnia-Herzegovina from League A. Following the defeat, Bosnia-Herzegovina will be relegated to the second tier of the Nations League.

On the other hand, there was a 0-0 draw in the match between Turkey and Wales. Now there is a difference of only two points between the first and second placed teams in Group B4. At the same time, Sweden secured promotion to League B by defeating Slovakia 2-1.

Apart from this, in another match, Netherlands confirmed their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Nations League with a spectacular 4-0 victory over Hungary.

In the first half, Wout Weghorst and Cody Gakpo scored two penalty goals to give the hosts the lead. Then Denzel Dumfries scored the third goal after the 60th minute. After this, in the last moments, substitute Tun Koopminers scored the fourth goal with a header on an accurate cross from Dumfries, making the score of the match 4-0. The Netherlands thus qualified for the Nations League quarter-finals with a 4–0 victory.

The match, played at the Johan Cruyff Arena, was initially halted for some time due to Hungarian staff member Adam Salai suddenly falling ill. However, the game resumed after his condition became stable.
