After Doria Sari, now Kota stone is going to be stamped with GI tag i.e. GO Graphical Indicator. After this Kota Stone will get special recognition at the international level. Due to this, the business of stone industry is likely to increase further. The Government of India has also accepted the application for GI considering Kota Stone as a regional product. The Department of Industries and Commerce had applied to the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) for GI tag for Kota Stone. The patent process has been started by accepting the application.
30 lakh metric tons production
Kota Stone (Lime Stone) is found only in Kota and Jhalawar districts. Limestone is the main mineral of both the districts. The annual production of Kota stone in Kota district is 30 lakh 26 thousand 481 metric tons and in Jhalawar district it is 15 lakh 63 thousand 424 metric tons. In Kota district, it is found mainly in the areas like Ramganjmandi, Chechat, Kudayala, Julmi, Satalkhedi, Modak etc. About 700 splitting units of Kota Stone are operating.
