Jaipur : Hundreds of girl students of Rajasthan University, Jaipur suddenly started a protest on Sunday night. The girls living in different hostels of the university campus surrounded the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat while raising slogans against the administration in the campus premises. After this, the girls marched towards the Vice Chancellor’s residence. The police and administration swung into action when hundreds of girl students suddenly came out on the road to protest at midnight. Police force and administration officials reached the spot. The officials kept on requesting till late night to convince the girls. Finally, at around one o’clock in the night, the girls were persuaded and sent to their respective hostels. The police and the administration heaved a sigh of relief when the girls went to their hostels.
Girls got angry due to increase in mess fees
Actually the reason for the students to suddenly come out on the streets was the increase in mess fees. The students allege that the university administration has suddenly increased the mess fees. Till now the mess fees used to be 1800 rupees. Which has been increased to 2100 rupees. The girls allege that the price of the food plate has been suddenly increased by 5 rupees. Till now 30 rupees were charged per plate which has been increased to 35 rupees. The police and administration officials assured to discuss the fees after talking to the university administration. After this, the students left for their hostels late at night.
Warning of agitation again from today
On Sunday night the students returned to the hostel after the assurance given by the police administration but they warned that they would again start protesting from Monday. They said that they do not trust mere verbal assurances. The administration will have to give in writing that they would roll back the increased fee. If orders for fee reduction are not issued in writing on Monday, then protests will again be started from tonight. The students say that because of limited seats in the hostel many students have to stay as guests. The fee for students staying as guests has also been increased from Rs.150 to Rs.200. This is not justified. It is not easy for rural students studying away from home to pay the increased fee.
