Indore, December 3 (IANS). Gujarat opener Urvil Patel scored his second T20 century in just six days in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Uttarakhand at the Emerald High School Ground on Tuesday. Patel scored a century in 36 balls and led Gujarat to victory by eight wickets in just 13.1 overs.
Patel’s century made him the first batsman in the history of T20 cricket to score two centuries in less than 40 balls. This achievement comes after the record century scored in 28 balls against Tripura at the same ground last week.
While chasing the target of 183 runs, Patel performed brilliantly and remained unbeaten after scoring 115 runs in just 41 balls. His innings included eight fours and 11 sky-high sixes, showing his ability to demolish any bowling attack. Their aggressive play ensured that Gujarat easily achieved the target with 41 balls to spare.
Earlier in the match, Patel scored an unbeaten 113 off 35 balls while chasing a modest target of 156 runs. His innings included 12 sixes and seven fours, helping Gujarat win in just 10.2 overs. His century in 28 balls was the fastest century by an Indian in T20 cricket, and his strike rate in that innings was 322.86, second only to Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who scored a century in 27 balls earlier this year. created.
Patel’s fondness for scoring runs quickly is not new. Exactly a year before his maiden 28-ball T20 century, he had scored the second-fastest List A century in Indian cricket, achieving the feat in just 41 balls against Arunachal Pradesh.
The 26-year-old Patel was part of the Gujarat Titans squad for the IPL 2023 season, having been bought for Rs 20 lakh. However, despite his stellar performances, Patel was released by Gujarat Titans ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. He entered the IPL 2025 mega auction with a base price of Rs 30 lakh, but no one could buy him.
