The magnificent pink sandstone structure of Galtaji temple was built by Diwan Rao Kriparam, who was a courtier of Sawai Raja Jai Singh II. Galtaji has been a haven for the Ramanandi sect and the Jogis since the beginning of the 16th century. It is said that Santgalav had performed penance of God for a long time at this place, due to which God was pleased and blessed the sage and this place has been built for the devotion of the same sage, and this temple has also been named after the same sage. It is said about this temple that the sections of Ramcharitmanas composed by Tulsidas were also written at this place.
Galtaji Temple is located in the Aravalli Hills and is surrounded by dense trees and mountains. The painted walls, round roof and pillars of the temple make it very attractive. This temple has been built like a palace and due to this also this temple has its own identity. This holy place does not look like a temple but looks like an ancient palace or havelis. A large number of monkeys are found here. The monkeys living here keep roaming in the premises of the temple, but they never harm the devotees. Shri Gyan Gopal Ji Temple and Shri Sitaram Ji Temple located in the Galta Ji complex are built in Haveli style. Shri Sitaram Ji Temple is the largest among all the temples in Galta Ji. According to the belief of the people, the idol of Shri Ram Gopal Ji located in Sitaram Ji Temple looks like both Lord Rama and Lord Krishna. The legend behind this idol is that Lord Krishna appeared to Tulsidas Ji in the form of Lord Rama and what Tulsidas saw is described in this idol. Hanuman Temple located in Galta Ji is famous all over the country for its Akhand Jyoti, its flame has been burning continuously for the last several centuries. Apart from these, there are many small temples in the Galta Ji complex which extend from Galta Gate to Shri Sitaram Ji Temple.
One of the most special sightseeing places of Jaipur, this temple complex has natural fresh water springs and seven sacred ‘kunds’. Out of all these kunds, Galta Kund is considered the most sacred, which never dries up. Every year, on the special occasion of Makar Sankranti festival, taking a dip in this holy kund is considered very auspicious. Along with this, Gaumukh located here is also very famous for its pure and clear flowing water. The natural water springs located in Galtaji temple also have special religious significance and are very revered by the devotees. The water in the premises of this temple spreads automatically and collects in the kunds. The most special thing about this natural spring is that its water never dries up, which amazes the devotees coming here.
According to old legends, it is said in the sacred script of Galvashram Mahatmya that on the full moon day during the Hindu month of Kartik, also known as Kartik Purnima, the Trimurti, Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh come to visit Galta Ji. Therefore, taking a dip in the Galta Kund on this day gives the devotees many times more blessings. Therefore, on every Kartik Purnima, devotees gather in large numbers to visit and take a dip in the Galta Kund. According to another belief, it is believed that to complete the religious pilgrimage of Char Dham and Saptpuris, everyone has to take a dip in the holy Galta Kund once. If this is not done, the pilgrimage of the devotees is considered incomplete.
You should visit Galta Ji temple in the months of October to December and February, March, where you get to see less cold in February-March, while winter starts in October, December and the rains end a few months earlier, due to which there is greenery all around. In this season, you will neither feel too cold nor too hot.
