Hanuman Chalisa recitation controversy in Varanasi, college students allege unilateral action

Varanasi, 4 December (IANS). Students studying in Uday Pratap College, Varanasi have accused the district administration of taking unilateral action.

The students allege that a case was registered against seven people by the police because Hanuman Chalisa was recited. Whereas, when Muslim students offered namaz, no action was taken against them. Actually, the students here are protesting against the claim of the Waqf Board that the college land has been claimed as Waqf by the Waqf Board. Students allege that since then the process of offering Namaz has started inside the college.

Student Piyush has told that we were protesting peacefully. We were reciting Hanuman Chalisa peacefully. The district administration has registered a case against seven people. We are demanding that action should be taken against those who disturb the peace by coming to the college in thousands. We are students and have no criminal record. We are appealing to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take cognizance of this entire matter. The District Magistrate should also investigate the entire matter strictly and listen to both the parties.

Sachin has said that the police is taking action on one side. We have been sued. The way strict action has been taken against us. Similar action should be taken against Namazis also. Namazis offered prayers in hundreds. Where only five people were allowed. Hundreds of people came there. He was not stopped by the administration. After this the students became furious and staged a protest.

Let us tell you that in Uday Pratap College, students had recited Hanuman Chalisa on Tuesday, objecting to offering Namaz.

The protesting students have clearly said that we cannot allow anyone to offer Namaz in the college campus. This is not a religious place, but a place of education.
