Hanumangarh Labor Department issues notice to 3350 people for labor cess recovery

Hanumangarh : Labor Department in Hanumangarh district has become strict regarding the cess payable on any kind of building construction. In the last month alone, notices were issued to about 3350 people. Let us tell you that there is a provision to deposit 1 percent cess (cess) in the Labor Department on the cost of government, commercial, private (residential) buildings and construction works constructed after July 27, 2009.

As per rules, if the cost of construction is more than Rs 10 lakh, then the Labor Department has to pay a cess of one percent of the total cost. In these notices issued by the department, details of the total cost of the house and the amount of cess are also given. This amount will be used in the schemes being run for the benefit of the workers. The department has constituted a special team for cess collection. Before this the department team conducted a survey. In the survey, landlords costing more than Rs 10 lakh were identified and asked to collect cess. After the first notice, the concerned has to present his/her side before the departmental officers. After this, departmental action will be taken if the cess is not deposited. The department has issued a notice to 3350 house owners who have not deposited the building construction cess. If the cess is not paid within the stipulated time period, departmental action will be taken. Now he has been given an opportunity to present his side.

Two percent interest will be charged on delay: According to Labor Department officials, the time limit for paying the cess has also been fixed in the notice issued to the building owners. If the cess is not paid within this period, the building owner may have to pay two percent interest on the cess amount every month.
