Harike Barrage is full of water but Rajasthan is still thirsty, know the reason

Bikaner : Farmers have been protesting for irrigation water for the last one month. Rajasthan’s share in the Gang Canal is 2500 cusecs of water. But, only 1000 to 1500 cusecs of water is released from Punjab, while Harike Barrage, from where the water comes, is full of water. Even after this, sufficient water is not being received.

Harike Barrage receives water from Sutlej and Beas rivers

The water of Sutlej and Beas rivers meets at Harike Barrage. From here, water goes forward through Rajasthan Feeder and Ferozepur Feeder. On the third side, water is released at Hussainiwala Head. The barrage is full of water. Many Congress leaders including Congress MP Kuldeep Indora, Suratgarh MLA Dungar Ram Gedar, Srikaranpur MLA Ruby Kunnar, former MLA Rajkumar Gaur also reached this barrage.

At present there is 30897 cusecs of water in Harike Barrage

He said that at present there is 30897 cusecs of water in Harike Barrage. 12500 cusecs of water is flowing in Rajasthan feeder which has a capacity of 18500 cusecs of water. 9100 cusecs of water is flowing in Ferozepur feeder which has a capacity of 12000 cusecs of water. Canals are broken at many places. Due to this less water has been released. 9 thousand cusecs of water is being released in Hussainwala Head, out of which 1 thousand cusecs of water is being released in Old Bikaner Canal and Eastern Canal.

Water is released into Ganganahar from Ferozepur feeder

The remaining 7 thousand cusecs of water is being released to Pakistan. Water is released into the Ganga canal through RD 45 from the Ferozepur feeder. Not all the water is being released into the Ganga canal either. The farmers of Rajasthan are facing water problems. MP Kuldeep Indora said that Punjab is constantly doing as it pleases. The farmers of Rajasthan are not getting enough water. He said that a voice will be raised in the Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha for this.
