Chandigarh, November 13 (IANS). The way has been paved for the construction of a new assembly building in Chandigarh for Haryana.
Chandigarh is the joint capital of Haryana and Punjab, but it exists as a union territory of its own. In such a situation, the file of the proposal for the construction of the Assembly building was stuck with the Union Environment Ministry.
For the last few days, there were obstructions due to some sensitive zones, which have now been removed.
Former Assembly Speaker Gyan Chand Gupta was the first to initiate efforts for the construction of a new assembly for Haryana. Chandigarh Administration had already approved the proposal of giving land for this. But, the matter was stuck due to the approval of the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
After this, the Haryana Government sent it afresh to the Central Government with some changes in the proposal. Now a notification has been issued by the Central Government on this.
According to the administration, the land received from Haryana in Panchkula area is adjacent to 123 acres of land in the IT Park of Chandigarh.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had approved the proposal to provide land in Chandigarh for the new assembly building.
For the new assembly building, 10 acres of land is being given by Chandigarh near the road leading from the railway station to the IT Park.
Mansa Devi Complex has 12 acres of land, which falls in environmentally sensitive zone.
With the approval of the Central Government, all the obstacles to the construction of the new assembly building have been removed. Now this land can be easily transferred to the administration.
The Haryana government was earlier ready to pay Rs 550 crore for the land.
On the release of the notification, former Assembly Speaker Gyan Chand Gupta has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
