Canberra, 9 December (IANS). Many benefits of a healthy diet have come to light so far. This not only improves the current condition of the body but it also reduces long standing pain. According to an Australian research, adopting a healthy diet can provide great relief from chronic pain.
Researchers at the University of South Australia found that if people eat according to the Australian Dietary Guidelines, their pain levels can reduce. This is even more evident especially in women. Chronic pain is pain that persists in the body for a long time. Sometimes they are less and sometimes they become very intense. There is no special help in their treatment and they persist for a long time. A good diet can reduce the intensity of this type of pain.
Sue Ward, co-author of the research, said: “It is well known that eating well is beneficial for health and well-being. But knowing that simple dietary changes can reduce chronic pain could be life-changing.”
Previous research has shown that more than 30% of people worldwide suffer from chronic pain, with women and overweight people being more affected.
New research finds that if people eat more of staple foods like vegetables, fruits, grains, lean meats, dairy and other alternatives, it reduces pain. The good thing is that it includes people of all types of weights.
“It’s important to know that making the right food choices and diet quality not only makes the body healthier, but also reduces pain,” Ward said.
It was also found that for women, the effect of a healthy diet in reducing pain is greater than for men.
Researchers believe that the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties present in key foods can be helpful in reducing pain. However, they cannot say with certainty whether bad diet increases pain or bad diet causes pain.
