Jaisalmer : A deep connection between homelessness and mental illnesses is being recognized in Jaisalmer border district. According to psychiatric experts, many of the people suffering from homelessness are facing mental illnesses. Most of these people suffer from depression and anxiety. There are many people who are struggling with mental problems and if they do not get support from society or family, their mental health deteriorates further. In addition to the mental health problems that are encountered, homeless people often also suffer from physical health problems. Let’s face it. They lack proper sanitation, nutrition and treatment, which further deteriorates their mental health. Reality: Social and Economic Impact Homeless people face embarrassment and discrimination regarding their status in society. This has an even more adverse effect on their mental health. People suffering from mental illness for a long time are unable to come out of their situation, due to which disappointment and depression increases in their lives.
People working in the tourism industry and daily wage laborers, who have not been able to build stable houses, are facing this problem. It is also having a negative impact on the education and health of children. Children are deprived of education and physical-mental health is also affected. Focus has to be on mental health, rehabilitation and employment.
Also important: Social activist Pankaj Kevaliya says that in relation to the problem of homelessness, merely providing shelter will not work. For this, work will also have to be done on mental health, so that people can live their lives properly again and can be included in the society.
A clear link between mental health and homelessness
mental health specialist Dr. Jitendra Narania points out that there is a clear link between mental health and homelessness. This has a negative impact on mental health for many people who do not have a stable home and family. This becomes a cyclical process, in which mental illness leads to homelessness, and homelessness leads to further mental illness. Mental depression and negativity take over these people. If social support is not available then the situation becomes more depressing.
