How obesity increases the risk of type 2 diabetes: Research

New Delhi, November 25 (IANS). American scientists have discovered through fat cells how obesity increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The study, published in Cell Reports, could help develop new treatments for type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases. This study works by helping fat stem cells develop into new, smaller fat cells.

For the first time, the University of California-Los Angeles team showed that obesity can make it difficult for the body to produce key cellular building blocks called ribosomal factors.

Without sufficient ribosomal factors, fat stem cells cannot produce functional fat cells. Their energy gets trapped and they increase in size and play an important role in the development of diabetes.

“Fat tissue is often thought of as harmful to our health, but it actually plays a role in helping our bodies regulate blood sugar levels,” said Dr. Claudio Villanueva, associate professor of Integrative Biology and Physiology at the University of California-Los Angeles. Plays an important role.”

Villanueva said that obese people have too much fat tissue that is not functioning optimally.

Fat stem cells work to create fat cells in our body. But if these cells do not get enough nutrients, they cannot form fat cells properly.

Fat tissue stores energy from food. However when it does not function properly the excess energy is stored elsewhere in the body such as in the liver causing fatty liver disease or in the heart leading to atherosclerosis or stroke.

Obese and diabetic rats were included in this research. The fat cells of these mice were four to five times larger than those of lean mice. The team gave him rosiglitazone.

The results showed that their ribosomal factors increased to normal levels, prompting their fat stem cells to produce new, smaller fat cells. Due to this, small fat cells started forming. Additionally, it enabled the mice’s fat tissue to function properly in energy storage. They also produce key hormones that regulate metabolism.

Scientists found that although the mice remained obese after taking the drug, their type 2 diabetes disappeared.
