Moscow, November 28 (IANS). Moscow says the deployment of medium-range American missiles in Japan would pose a threat to Russia’s security. This statement once again reflects the increasing tension in Russia’s relations with America and its allies.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Russia has repeatedly warned the Japanese side about such cooperation with the US.
Maria Zakharova said that in response, Russia ‘will be forced to take necessary steps to strengthen its defense capabilities.’
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov had said that Russia would consider deploying medium-range and short-range missiles in Asia if American missiles appear in the region.
Maria Zakharova also mentioned Russia’s updated nuclear doctrine to send a message about what possible actions Moscow could take.
Let us tell you that President Vladimir Putin had recently approved changes in Russia’s nuclear doctrine. In this, new conditions have been set as to when nuclear weapons can be used.
The updated nuclear doctrine states that an attack by a non-nuclear state, if supported by a nuclear power, would be considered a joint attack on Russia.
Under the changes, a major attack on Russia with conventional missiles, drones or aircraft could meet the conditions necessary for a nuclear response. Any aggression against Russia by any coalition member country will be viewed by Moscow as aggression by the entire group.
