Sriganganagar News Desk: After falling into the trap of cyber thugs in Sriganganagar area, two women got digitally arrested and became victims of fraud of Rs 1 crore and a half. In one case, an elderly woman from a rural area was so mentally tortured by a caller pretending to be a CBI agent that she was duped into depositing Rs 1 crore 5 lakh 59 thousand in his account. At the district headquarters, a swindler, posing as an army officer, duped a woman doctor of around Rs 6 lakh. Both the cases have been registered in the cyber police station. The investigation of both these cases has been given to DSP Kuldeep Walia, in-charge of the cyber police station.
Threatened…deposited amount fraudulently
69-year-old Jaswinder Kaur, resident of Chunavadh area village 22 ML, reported that one of her sons, Harpreet Singh, lives in Canada and the other, Pawandeep Singh, lives in Australia. Three years ago she and her husband had sold 32 bighas of land. Nine bighas of land was purchased from the amount received in lieu of this and the remaining amount was deposited in different bank accounts. On November 15, 2024, an unknown caller introduced himself as a CBI officer in Delhi. He threatened that a large amount of money had been deposited in the bank accounts fraudulently. A case is being registered by CBI regarding the deposit of fraudulent amount. It took about ten minutes for the first call and about forty minutes for the second call. Investigation of this case revealed that many more people were defrauded of around Rs 100 crore. Police obtained details of the bank accounts to which the defrauded amount was transferred. Later, the mobile phone involved in the fraud was discovered, which was being used by Feng Chunjin.
