Abu Dhabi, 9 December (IANS). Kush Maini created history again in the 2024 season of Formula 2. The Invicta Racing team won the F2 Constructors’ Championship, making the 24-year-old the first and only Indian to win the FIA Constructors’ World Championship at the pinnacle of the junior formula.
This fantastic achievement adds to a stellar year for Kush, who became the first Indian to achieve an F2 pole position. Despite the ups and downs of the season, Kusch played a key role in Invicta’s success, scoring five podiums including a race win in Hungary. His pole position in Jeddah set the tone for the team’s dominant campaign, which culminated with a victory over Kush’s former team – Campos Racing by a margin of 34.5 points.
For the final race, Maini had a solid qualifying round in Abu Dhabi, resulting in a P6 finish and even better starts in both races. He gained 6 places in the sprint in his first lap and 3 places in the feature in his first lap. However, some damage to his floor left him on the back foot for the sprint, while a botched pitstop hampered his plans to finish the season on a high in the feature race on Sunday.
Maini said after this great achievement, “Given the way we started, it was not the year I wanted, but there were still a lot of positives, including the Constructors’ Championship. Well done to everyone at Invicta. Thank you for this and all the best for the future. I am looking forward to what comes next and look forward to next year.
This historic win not only cements Maini’s place in Indian motorsport history, but also underlines his resilience and determination during a challenging but rewarding season. Looking towards the next chapter of his journey, Kush carries the hopes of a nation aspiring for greater representation on the global motorsport stage.
