‘Initiative on Strengthening Juridical Protection of Biodiversity in the Yangtze River Basin’ launched in Wuhan

Beijing, November 23 (IANS). The third Yangtze River Conservation Judicial Forum was held in Wuhan city of China’s Hubei province on Saturday. At the opening ceremony, the “Judicial Protection of Biodiversity in the Yangtze River Basin” was jointly launched by the High People’s Courts of 11 provinces, including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Chongqing, Sichuan, Yunnan, Xi’an and Qinghai. “Initiative on Strengthening” was officially released, attended by all parties present.

It is noteworthy that the Yangtze River is considered the mother river of the Chinese nation and plays an important role in maintaining biodiversity and ecological balance and ensuring national ecological security. The initiative states that striving to realize Chinese-style modernization in which humans and nature coexist harmoniously is a common and urgent task for people’s courts at all levels in the Yangtze River Basin.

We must uphold the green development concept of respecting nature, complying with nature, and protecting nature. We must abide by the law and insist on using the most strict system and strict rule of law to protect the ecological environment. At the same time, we need to build a new pattern of environmental governance and strengthen judicial cooperation between courts in the Yangtze River Basin.
