Baghdad, November 25 (IANS). A Shia militia group called Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed to have fired two drones into Israel. The group said in a statement issued on Sunday that its fighters carried out separate drone strikes. In one of these, an ‘important site’ of Israel was targeted and in the other, a ‘military site’ was targeted.
According to the report of Xinhua news agency, the group’s statement did not give any further information about the targeted sites nor was there any information about any casualties.
The Iraqi militia group said the drone strikes were carried out ‘in solidarity with our people in Palestine and Lebanon’. It also said it would continue to ‘target enemy strongholds’.
After Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip began on October 7, 2023, Iraqi militia groups began attacking Israeli and American targets.
September The militias intensified their attacks on Israel after Israel stepped up attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
On October 7, in response to a major attack by Hamas in Israel, the Jewish State launched a military operation in the Gaza Strip occupied by the Palestinian group. About 1200 people were killed in the Hamas attack while more than 250 people were taken hostage. Israeli attacks have caused widespread destruction in Gaza and killed thousands of Palestinians.
Along with this, the Israeli army is carrying out air strikes on Lebanon since September 23. It has also launched a ‘limited’ ground campaign across the border, reportedly aimed at weakening Hezbollah.
