IRS trainee officers met the President, Draupadi Murmu said – ‘Always have to work with honesty’

New Delhi, December 2 (IANS). Trainee officers of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) met President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.

During this, the President while addressing the officers said that the Indian Revenue Service connects our economy through a common tax system and shared administrative values. IRS officers are a very important link between the Government of India, business and tax administration of various states.

He said that in the changing socio-economic scenario across the world, the agenda of national interest is largely determined by international economic cooperation. He told the officials that they are the guardians of the country’s economic borders. Always have to work with honesty and dedication. Their role will be important in trade facilitation agreements with other countries.

The President said that the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) provides resources to the country for economic development, creation of infrastructure, running socio-economic schemes, education and health services. In this way this service plays an important role in nation building. He told the officers that to perform their roles well, they need to develop systems and processes that are transparent and accountable.

President Draupadi Murmu said that in this new and dynamic era, efforts should be made to make less intervention and more use of technology in tax collection. The responsibility of bringing new ideas and new solutions in the field of tax administration is on the young officers.

The President advised officials to remember that taxation is not the only means of raising the country’s revenue. It is also important for social, economic and political development. The taxes paid by the citizens of the country are used for the development of the country and its people. Therefore, if they do their work with dedication and devotion, they will be able to make a huge contribution to the development of the country.
