Is Gautam Gambhir’s overconfidence costing Team India dearly?

New Delhi, November 12 (IANS). If there is a tour of Australia then there will definitely be heat in the atmosphere. The rhetoric has started long ago. But before leaving for Australia, in the press conference of Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir, his aggressive attitude and ‘overconfidence’ are once again in the headlines.

Looking at Gambhir’s attitude, it was very difficult to say that he is the head coach of a team which recently lost the three-match Test series 0-3 at home. However, it is not wrong to have a positive approach but it should not turn into ‘overconfidence’.

Many questions were asked to Gautam Gambhir regarding the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which he answered very boldly and in his own style. First of all, he made it clear that there is no pressure on him due to the defeat against New Zealand. He just gives his best and doesn’t care about results or criticism.

Meanwhile, Gambhir took on Ponting. While answering questions related to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, he advised Ponting to limit himself to Australian cricket. His attitude in answering every question of the journalists irritated many stalwarts in the cricket world including Sanjay Manjrekar.

However, during this period, some of Gambhir’s words were correct. But the question is, is his attitude right as a coach? Is his overconfidence becoming costly for the team? These are some questions for which BCCI will have to find answers.

Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir will also have a litmus test on the Australian tour. Anyway, after the crushing defeat against New Zealand, questions have been raised about Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir took over as head coach about four months ago. But under his coaching, the Indian team lost the ODI series on its first tour of Sri Lanka. Then there was a clean sweep in the Test series at home against New Zealand. In such a situation it is natural to raise questions.

Undoubtedly, Gambhir has proved to be a strong contender in Team India as a coach. He is also backing the senior players and also including new talent in the team, but there is a risk of his overconfidence hiding the reality of the team. Even when Gautam Gambhir was in the race to become the coach of Team India, many cricket experts had raised questions about his attitude and aggressive attitude. Now after becoming his coach, a glimpse of it is also visible somewhere.

Not only Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma is also not changing his attitude despite the team’s continuous defeats and his own flop show as a batsman. He is ignoring the defeat by ignoring the team’s shortcomings and assuring a comeback. But on the Australian tour, the coach and captain will have to change their strategy, approach and thinking. Otherwise, this attitude may prove costly for Team India.
